Any unusual thing with the cause unknown is called a miracle. As soon as the cause is known it becomes commonplace. Many of the things which today are so common and generally in use that our civilization depends upon them, at one time were classed as miracles and held in awe by all.
When the first reports of such discoveries and inventions as the telegraph, the telephone and radio were circulated, many called them miracles and others were skeptical and still others ridiculed the idea that any such things could be.
All because they did not understand the underlying principles and forces. Later these people, becoming acquainted with the facts, made use of these very things which they themselves had denied could exist.
Many today are skeptical about, deny and laugh at, the possibility of biblical or modern miracles from God, just because they are in ignorance of what causes them, the power of God or the Holy Spirit.
This Spirit or power which they deny or are ignorant of, is just as real and more powerful than any of the forces or powers that underlie our inventions and civilization.
To the man in the jungle, the phonograph, the telephone, the electric light and the airplane are mysteries unfathomable. When he sees them he knows they exist, but cannot explain why or how they operate, so he calls them “strong medicine,” “witchcraft” and the like. The unbelieving learned man stands in somewhat the same relation to the power of God.
He denies that the biblical records of miracles from God are true or if he sees anything of the same nature today he calls it hypnotism, psychological phenomena or just plain “humbug.” So the jungle man and the unbelieving learned man are in the same boat. The one is ignorant of what underlies and causes the products of civilization and the other of the operation of God’s Spirit.

But why should a miracle be considered improbable? If God’s power in the beginning brought the visible universe and invisible angelic hosts and principalities and powers in the heavenly places into being, has it since in any way decreased? Is he not now just as able to create as He then was or can He not now if necessary rearrange the relation of created things toward each other?
If God has created and maintains the elements that make up a bone in a body and has laid down the laws that govern its formation, growth and nourishment, is not God also capable of healing that bone or even creating a new one if it be His pleasure? Most assuredly He can!
The ignorance concerning the power of God is in the cause of the prevalent spirit of unbelief, satan. The fact that miracles and powers are scarce these days is not any indication of any lessening of power on God’s part, but rather that but few persons will yield themselves to God to allow the Holy Spirit to impart the necessary faith. The fault lies with man and not with God.
Hebrews 11: 6 …without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him!
