Attributes Of God Everything about your life is determined and influenced by your view of God. When you see God as He truly is, your life cannot help but change. People have many different perceptions of what God is like. Some see Him as a divine Santa Clause. Some as a vengeful dictator. Some as an old grandfather. Many others fear God because they have a distorted understanding of His character. But God not only wants you to view Him correctly, He wants you to know Him personally. So He reveals Himself through His Word, the Bible. The scriptures provide us with a description of what He is like and what is important to Him. Below are the attributes of God and......our benefits of His different characteristics.God is a personal Spirit... We can seek an intimate relationship with Him. (He desires a Parent-child relationship). God is all-powerful... He can help us with anything. The combined energy of all earth's storms, winds, ocean waves and other forces of nature do not equal even a fraction of God's almighty power. more… God is ever-present... He is always with us. There is nothing hidden from God. When we are alone, God watches what we do. He sees what we do in secret. Everything is exposed and naked before His eyes. more… God knows everything... So we can go to Him with all our questions and concerns. He is the source of all true knowledge. His knowledge is undefiled by any distortions or wrong perspectives. It is totally true and accurate. more… God is sovereign... So we can easily submit to His will. There is no higher authority. No one can force God to do anything against His will. Nothing occurs without His divine permission or operates outside the limits prescribed by Him. more… God is holy... So we must devote ourselves to Him in purity, worship, and service. God's holiness infinitely sets Him apart from His creation. To stand in the splendor of supreme holiness one could not help but be overcome with a sense of awe and reverent fear! more… God is absolute truth... We can believe what He says and live accordingly. God is the source of all truth. It is impossible for Him to be otherwise. Whatever He says is completely accurate. more… God is righteous... So we must live by His standards. God's laws are a reflection of His righteousness. more… God is just... He will always treat us fairly. He is absolutely just in all His judgments. Because of His righteousness, He cannot be bribed or corrupted in any way. God cannot be fooled. more… God is love... He is unconditionally committed to our well-being. People violate standards of honesty, righteousness and morality to please others. God's love is not based on how good we are or what we do to please Him. He loves us because He is God and we are His creation. more… God is merciful... He will forgive our sins when we confess them sincerely. God's very nature desires to relieve us of the self-imposed misery and distress we experience because of our sin. more… God is faithful... We can trust Him to always keep His promises. Faithfulness is at the very heart of all that God is and does. The truthfulness, holiness, love, righteousness and all the other attributes of God ensure His faithfulness. He is incapable of being otherwise. more… God never changes... So our future is secure and eternal. In fact, it is impossible for God to change! His unchangeable ways assure us of unwavering guidance. more… The attributes of God also reveal to us......that He is incomprehensible. That in many ways He is beyond our understanding.For instance, He is infinite. Unlike us, He has no limits or boundaries. He is not confined to the dimension of space. His love, holiness, mercy, and all His other qualities are unlimited in their scope and expression. He is self-existent. Unlike everything else in the entire universe, He had no beginning. Because He is the Creator, He is the only One who exists outside of the created order. He is eternal. He is not bound by the dimension of time. He created time as a temporary context for His creation. With God, everything that has ever happened or will ever happen has already occurred within His awareness. God encompasses all of eternity. God is also self-sufficient. All creation relies on Him for existence, but He has no need for anything. He does not need our help. He only offers us the privilege of being involved with Him in the fulfillment of His purposes. And of all of the attributes of God, my favorite is that God is a personal Spirit, so we can go beyond just knowing ABOUT Him. We can actually enter into a warm friendship and family relationship with Him.
